Delete your account

This page is for the Sidez app (Android and web), published by Benli Kagan.

If you can sign in

This is the quickest way, and it takes effect immediately.
  1. Open Sidez and go to the Profile tab.
  2. Tap the gear in the top right to open Settings.
  3. Tap Delete account.
  4. Read what will be removed, type DELETE to confirm, and tap the button.

Your account and everything listed under “What gets deleted” are removed at once. What stays is listed further down. There is no grace period and no undo, so take a copy first with Settings → Download my data if you want one.

If you can't sign in

Email benli.kagan@gmail.com from the address you signed up with, or tell us the username on the account. We delete it within 7 days and reply to confirm when it's done.

We may ask one question to check the account is yours. We won't ask for a password. You sign in to Sidez with Google or an emailed link.

What gets deleted

  • your profile: username, display name, bio, avatar, date of birth, time zone, language and interests, and the email address you signed in with, plus the sign-in records (device and network address) kept for each session
  • every poll you posted, with its photo, its votes and its comments
  • your votes, likes, skips and comments on other people's polls
  • your chats, including your messages in other people's copies of them
  • who you follow and who follows you
  • your searches, and everything the feed learned about your taste from them
  • your streak, your daily packs and your event history
  • your notification settings, and the addresses your devices are reached at

What stays, and why

  • Totals other people share. A poll's vote count, and what a search phrase turned out to mean, are sums across everybody. Your row inside them goes; the total stays, one smaller.
  • Logged-out browsing. Activity recorded against the random cookie a visitor gets before they have an account. We keep it for up to 90 days. Once your account is deleted we no longer link that cookie to you.
  • Votes cast without an account that were never claimed. These stay against the cookie id.
  • Backups. A nightly backup copy of our database is kept in a private repository. We do not delete old copies automatically yet, so a deleted account can remain in older backups.
  • Reported content. If something you posted was taken down after a report, we keep a private copy of it, and of the account that posted it, for a year.
  • Logs kept by our providers. Our hosting and email providers keep their own short logs, from an hour to about a month.
  • Photos can still load from a cache for up to an hour after deletion.
